    Publication Guidelines for ‘Constantine’s Letters’

    An article to be published should be sent as the .doc (MS Word), .docx (MS Word) or .rtf text file format along with the .pdf version. The text has to contain a title (a subtitle), an abstract (at least 600 characters without gaps, in Slovak and English), key words (in Slovak and English) and a summary (at least 1000 characters without gaps in English). The contact information (author’s affiliation) should be added after the summary in Slovak and English. The contact information includes: author’s first name and surname, degree(s), institutional affiliation and an e-mail address. Manuscripts should be in the Times New Roman font type, size 12, spacing 1.5, A4 with standard parameters.

    A time range in the text, e. g. years of a ruler´s reign, should be separated by a dash with two gaps, “e. g. Adrian I (772 – 795)”.

    For the references, use footnotes. Name(s) of the author(s) or editor(s) should be in capital letters. The title of the publication (a monograph, proceedings, a journal, Bachelor’s Thesis, Master’s Thesis, Rigorosa Thesis and Dissertation) should be written in italics. The subtitle of the publication should be separated by a full stop and gap. If there are more than three authors or editors, only the name of the first one will be stated followed by “et al.” The name of an editor of the proceedings editor is followed by “(ed.)” or “(eds.)”, the latter one in case of more than one editor. If there is no author, the reference will start with the title of the article. In case of more than one reference in a footnote, the references should be separated by a full stop. If there are two consecutive pages in a reference, they should be divided by a comma (e. g. “pp. 77, 78.”).

    If the place of issue is not mentioned, the “b. m.” abbreviation should be used. In case of two or more places they are separated by a semi-colon. If no publication date is available, the “b. r.” abbreviation should be used, and if there are not pages in the source, the “b. s.” abbreviation should be used.

    An article may include also appendices. Before appendices should be stated Slovak and English title “Prílohy/Appendix”. These can be illustrations (pictures and tables) as well as text tables. Appendices must not be included in the manuscripts, but they need to be attached separately. Appendices must contain notes placed after the summary in the manuscript. These notes should be in Slovak as well in English. For illustrations in the text use an abbreviation “fig.” Tables/ charts or units with more illustrations follow the main body of the text, and are placed before the summary. They have got the tab.” abbreviation. Text tables are word-numeral compositions of data arranged in lines and columns. With these, there is no abbreviation, just the term “tabela”. Appendices should be referred in the main text in brackets in italics. The references to appendices should follow this order: (fig. 1, 2, 3, …). Other references may be used randomly.

    Illustrations provided should be of sufficient quality and standard file format:

    1. black and white drawings should be sent as 1-bit black and white images of 300 dpi resolution size in .tif file format;

    2. drawings, pictures and photographs in grey scale should be sent as 8-bit grey scale images of 300 dpi in .jpg file format;

    3. drawings, pictures and photographs in colour should be sent at least as 24-bit RGB colour scale pictures of 300 dpi in .jpg file format.
